Andrea Riseborough, Tom Wlaschiha and Michael Sheen have signed up for war drama Resistance, to be directed by Amit Gupta.

Gupta (Love Story) and novelist Owen Sheers have co-adapted Sheers’ novel of the same name about a group of women forced to co-operate with a German patrol after their husbands disappear in German-occupied Britain.

The drama is due to start shoot around Abergavenny, Wales, in late October.

Richard Holmes (Waking Ned and Eden Lake) will produce alongside Amanda Faber with Richard Staniforth as executive producer. Rachel Portman is attached to score the film.

Development support came from Film Agency Wales, Munich-based distributor Square One and the EU’s MEDIA Fund. Film Agency for Wales has also followed through with an equity investment in the production.

Pauline Burt, chief executive of the Film Agency for Wales said: “We are genuinely very excited to be working with Owen on his first feature film. Resistance is a beautiful novel with clear cinematic potential. The material’s in very capable hands with the experience and credentials of the producer team, a director with real vision and a fantastic cast.”
