The World Cinema Fund has given funding to four new film projects at its latest session.

Alejandro Fernandez Almendras’ Chile-Germany co-production By The Fire (Sentados frente al fuego) received the biggest award, production funding of €50,000.

Esteban Larrain’s The Passion of Michelangelo from Chile received 40,000, while Turkish director Yesim Ustaoglu’s ARAF – Somewhere In Between and Moroccan director Leila Kilani’s Sur La Planche each took production awards of €30,000.

The WCF awarded German distribution funding to Medianet for Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, Neue Visionen for October and Mitosfilm for Kick Off.

Since 2004, the WCF has awarded production and distribution funding to 80 projects from Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Central and South East Asia, and the Caucasus.

The WCF is an initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation and the Berlin International Film Festival in cooperation with the Goethe Institute.
