This year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, September 4-14) lineup offers an anticipated array of titles including Paul Greengrass’s The Lost Bus, Nia DaCosta’s Hedda, James Vanderbilt’s Nuremberg, Annemarie Jacir’s Palestine 36, Nicholas Hytner’s The Choral, Alice Winocour’s Couture and Rian Johnson’s latest Knives Out mystery, Wake Up Dead Man.

Also screening are the directing debuts of actors Brian Cox, James McAvoy, Aziz Ansari and Maude Apatow, and awards hopefuls including Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Edward Berger’s Ballad Of A Small Player, that both made their world premieres at the US’ Telluride Film Festival.

Screen has the lowdown on all the premieres playing across TIFF’s Galas, Special Presentations, Platform and Midnight Madness strands, and also previews the TIFF Docs, Discovery and Centrepiece sections. We hope our comprehensive coverage will help readers — whether attending or not — navigate what may seem rather sprawling lineups of new films - and the odd series.
