Davey Frankel and Rasselas Lakew’s Atletu won the Bahamas International Film Festival’s (BIFF) Spirit Of Freedom (Narrative) honour as the event closed at the weekend.

The Spirit Of Freedom (Documentary) prize went to Budrus from Julia Bacha.

Adam Reid’s Hello Lonesome took the New Visions award while Gustavius Smith’s Contact Zone Bahamas was named best short.

BIFF Audience Awards went to Atletu for best feature narrative and Bouncing Cats for best documentary.

The three winning screenwriters from this year’s BIFF Filmmaker Residency Program were: Sara Van Acker for Bloodlust; Karen Webb for Arthur’s Salvation; and Mark Cerulli for Sunburn.

The festival ran from December 1-6 and closed with a screening of The King’s Speech. All in all 56 films including 20 features from 14 countries screened.
