Kate Winslet scored a stunning double triumph at the 66th Golden Globes last Sunday, while Slumdog Millionaire upset the form guide to shut out pre-show favourites The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button and Frost/Nixon.

Winslet made herself an Oscar front runner after taking home the first two Globes of her career for best actress in a drama for DreamWorks/Paramount's Revolutionary Road and supporting actress for The Weinstein Company's The Reader. She had previously been nominated five times.

Slumdog Millionaire won best drama, director for Danny Boyle, screenplay for Simon Beaufoy and score for AR Rahman. It was an extraordinary success for the Film4 and Celador Films production, which is released in North America through Fox Searchlight.

Neither The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, released in North America through Paramount and by Warner Bros internationally, nor Universal's Frost/Nixon, managed to translate any of their five nominations into a win.

The Weinstein Company's Vicky Cristina Barcelona won best musical or comedy, and in another win for UK talent, Sally Hawkins was named best actress in a musical or comedy for Miramax's Happy-Go-Lucky.

Mickey Rourke drew raucous applause when he won best dramatic actor for Fox Searchlight's The Wrestler and Colin Farrell took top musical or comedy acting honours for Focus Features' In Bruges.

The late Heath Ledger was named best supporting actor for Warner Bros' The Dark Knight.

Sony Pictures Classics' Waltz With Bashir won best foreign-language film and Buena Vista's Wall-E took the animated feature prize.
