David Robert Mitchell’s mystery title The End Of Oak Street opened in third place at the UK-Ireland box office with over £2m; as Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey entered the all-time top 20.

Brand New Day added £6.1m on its third session, a drop of 50% for Sony. It is up to £78.7m, currently the 12th-highest-grossing film of all time in the territory. It will jump into the top 10 within the next week and is tracking ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was at £69.8m after three weekends and ended on £97.3m, currently the fourth highest-grossing film.

Universal’s The Odyssey posted a 29% fall on its fifth session, with £3.7m taking it to £69.1m total. It is the 19th-highest grossing film of all time in the UK and Ireland, and the second-highest grossing literary adaptation, behind Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (£73.2m)

The End Of Oak Street started with £2.1m, from 648 sites at a £3,260 average. It is already the highest-grossing film for Mitchell, topping the £1.2m total of his 2015 horror It Follows.

Paramount’s Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie added £695,000 on its second weekend, marking a 37% drop from its opening. The animation is up to £3.2m, ahead of the £1.9m of 2020’s Paw Patrol: Ready, Race, Rescue, but falling behind the rate of 2021’s The Paw Patrol Movie (£8.8m total) and 2023’s Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie (£8.2m total).

Toy Story 5 remained in the top five after nine weekends for Disney, with £527,000, a 29% drop. It is up to £55.2m total, overtaking family animations including 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie (£54.9m) and 2019’s Frozen 2 (£53.8m), but behind the two most recent Toy Story films (£74.1m for number three, £66.2m for number four).

Takings for the top five came in at £13.2m, down 33% on the previous weekend, but still holding above £10m for the fifth weekend in a row, and a chunky 191% up on the equivalent weekend from last year. While Brand New Day and The Odyssey should continue to hold in seven-figure territory next weekend, challengers will include Sony’s Insidious: Out Of The Further and Black Bear’s Spa Weekend.

New openers this weekend also included A24’s Anthony Bourdain film Tony, which posted a strong £292,000 from just 100 sites, at a £2,920 site average. Including previews, it is up to £402,000, and will look to push towards the £1m mark across its run.

True Brit Entertainment’s Sunny Dancer started with £82,900 from 336 sites at a £247 average. Including previews, the UK independent feature is up to £96,600.
