Harry Potter producer David Barron of Runaway Fridge Films is developing a big screen feature adaptation based around the British action hero Bulldog Drummondwho appeared in the novels by Herman Cyril McNeile (under the pseudonym Sapper).

The Bulldog Drummond stories followed Captain Hugh “Bulldog” Drummond, a former WW1 officer who becomes a private detective.

Barron will co-produce the film with Pria Viswalingam of Australian production company Fork Films. The film will be based on a storyline by John Collee and Dennis Kleinman. Barron is currently looking for a screenwrite with plans to shoot late 2011/early 2012.

“Before Bond, before Bourne there was Bulldog” said Barron. “He is a compellingly honest action hero, who will appeal to all those who love great adventure films, such as, Indiana Jones, Bourne and The Mummy, whilst the political turmoil and lawlessness of the post World War I setting will resonate with the challenges facing the world today.”
