It looks like Warner Bros is keen to replicate the success of Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning The Departed.

The remake of Andrew Lau and Alan Mak's Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs picked up four Oscars, including best picture, director and adapted screenplay, on Sunday night and has grossed more than $250m.

As reported by Screen at the European Film Market, Warner Bros has now acquired remake rights to Lau and Mak's crime thriller Confession Of Pain as a possible vehicle for The Departed star Leonardo DiCaprio.

William Monahan, who won the best adapted screenplay Oscar for The Departed, is attached to write the Confession adaptation. DiCaprio will produce via his Appian Way banner with Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Doug Davison.

Hong Kong 's Media Asia again backed Confession Of Pain about a private detective who helps a friend investigate his father-in-law's death. The film, which was scripted by Felix Chong and stars Takeshi Kaneshiro and Tony Leung Chiu-wai, grossed around $12m over Christmas in China and Hong Kong.
