Magnet Releasing has added Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza’s Spanish horror sequel to their slate.

[REC] 2 kicks off shortly after where its 2007 leaves off, as a medical officer and a SWAT team armed with video cameras are sent into an apartment building. Said building has been quarantined after a viral outbreak resulted in demonic possession among certain residents.

Magnet plans an early July theatrical release for the film, which will be released through Magnolia/Magnet’s Ultra VOD programme a month prior to theatrical release.

[REC]2 comes courtesy of the audiences who infused life into its predecessor,” the directors said in a statement. “Their enthusiasm and imagination. In some way they’re the ones who created it. It’s their fault.”

Magnolia’s senior vice-president Tom Quinn negotiated the deal on behalf of Magnet Releasing.
