Hong Kong-based sales outfit Distribution Workshop has picked up international rights to Jingle Ma’s Mulan, a live-action version of the Chinese classic folk story, and Ivy Ho’s romantic drama Crossing Hennessy.

Mulan stars Vick Zhao Wei as the plucky Chinese heroine who dresses as a man in order to join the army and honour her father. Chen Kun (Painted Skin), Jaycee Chan (The Sun Also Rises) and Russian singer Vitas also star.

Produced by Beijing-based Starlight International, the $11.7m film is currently in production and scheduled for release in China early next year.

Starring Jacky Cheung and Lust, Caution actress Tang Wei, Crossing Hennessy is the second directorial project from renowned script-writer Ho following well-received drama Claustrophobia.

Also in production, the film is produced by Bill Kong and financed by Irresistible Films, the fund that Kong set up with Hugh Simon of Hamon Investment and Japan’s Avex Entertainment.
