Paranormal Activity, already a bona fide North American smash on more than $107m, has been making waves overseas and grossed $19.4m at the weekend according to LA-based international sales agent IM Global, bringing the tally after two weekends to $34m.

In a string of hit results that has seen Oren Peli’s low-budget horror film outpace the likes of New Moon and 2012, Paranormal Activity debuted in second place in France through Wild Bunch with an exceptional $5.3m and 519,491 admissions.

Paranormal Activity held on to the number one berth in its second weekend in the UK, adding $2.1m from 394 screens through Icon for an early $11.8m tally. Icon reported a number one launch in Australia on $2.5m.

In Germany the film has performed relatively softly, grossing a little over $2m from 200 screens after two weekends. Brazil has produced $1.3m through PlayArte. Japan, Italy, South Korea and Latin America are among the major territories yet to receive the film.

“Icon and Wild Bunch have done every bit as enthusiastic and skillful a job as Paramount here in the US and we’re delighted the film is achieving the results their passion deserves,” IM Global CEO Stuart Ford said.
