Arclight’s Asian division, Easternlight Films, has picked up international rights to three upcoming Chinese productions – The Assassins, The Four and Hur Jin-ho’s Dangerous Liaisons.

Hur’s Chinese-language adaptation of the French classic is currently in production and will be completed in May. Produced by China’s Zonbo Media and other partners, the film is written by Yan Geling (Flowers Of War) and stars Zhang Ziyi, Jang Dong-gun, Cecilia Cheung, Lisa Lu and Shawn Du.

The Assassins, starring Chow Yun Fat, Crystal Liu and Japanese star Tamaki Hiroshi, is a $20m mystery thriller which uncovers the secret behind the death of one of the characters in China’s classic Three Kingdoms story. The film is directed by Zhao Lin Shan and written by Wang Bin (House Of Flying Daggers, Hero).

The Four, written and directed by Gordon Chan, is a $12m action epic about four special agents with extraordinary martial arts powers. The starry ensemble cast includes Deng Chao, Crystal Liu, Collin Chou, Anthony Wong and Ronald Cheng.

Both The Four and The Assassins are produced by Beijing Enlight Pictures and are also currently in production.  

Easternlight is also selling the long-gestating live action version of the Mulan story which previously had Jan de Bont attached to direct. Deborah Chow is now writing the script.
