Eduardo Chapero-Jackson’s hotly anticipated feature debut is a dark thriller.

Leading Spanish studio Filmax has taken international sales rights to award winning shorts director Eduardo Chapero-Jackson’s hotly anticipated feature debut Verbo.

The dark thriller is about a troubled teen, played by Alba Garcia, who escapes into a fantasy world. The film also stars Veronica Echegui, Miguel Angel Silvestre and Macarena Gomez. Renowned producer Enrique Lopez Lavigne (28 Weeks Later, Sex And Lucia) is backing the film through his outfit Apaches Entertainment, alongside Alvaro Augustin at Telecinco Cinema (Agora, Che).

“We will be showing early footage of the film at Cannes, and hope to have it ready to premiere at either Venice or Toronto,” Vicente Canales, head of sales at Filmax, told ScreenDaily.

Chapero Jackson won numerous awards for his three short films, Contracuerpo, The End, and Alumbramiento, which picked up the best short film prize at the European Film Awards in 2007.

Filmax have picked up a number of high-profile local projects recently, including Oskar Santos’ For The Good Of Others (El Mal Ajeno), produced by Alejandro Amenabar and Telecinco Cinema, and Eugenio Mira’s Agnosia, both starring local actor Eduardo Noriega.

“We are delighted that once again Filmax has included a Telecinco Cinema production on its international slate,” adds Ghislain Barrois, Telecinco Cinema’s CEO.
