Warner Bros will release the Enrique Urbizu thriller in Spain this autumn

Spanish studio Filmax has picked up international sales rights to Enrique Urbizu’s thriller No Rest For The Wicked (No Habra Paz Para Los Malvados), which it will present to buyers at Cannes.

The film stars Jose Coronado as a detective investigating a missing girl who gets caught up in a shooting at a bar. The cast also includes Rodolfo Sancho, Juanjo Artero and Helena Miquel.

Ignacio and Gonzalo Salazar-Simpson at Madrid-based outfit Lazona are producing the film alongside Telecinco Cinema’s Alvaro Augustin (The Orphanage, Pan’s Labyrinth, Agora).

Filmax will present the project to buyers at Cannes next month. Warner Bros has already picked up the rights for Spain and will release the film this autumn.

Other forthcoming projects on Filmax’s sales slate for Cannes include Brad Anderson’s English-language drama Concrete Island, Eduardo Chapero-Jackson’s debut feature film Verbo, Andres G Schaer’s animation Snowflake, Jaume Balaguero’s thriller/horror Sleep Tight, Paco Plaza’s [Rec 3] Genesis and Manuel Carballo’s horror The Returned.

In other Spanish news DeaPlaneta has taken international sales rights to Vicente Villanueva’s romantic comedy The Opposite Of Love, which it will debut at the Cannes market.

Starring Hugo Silva and Adriana Ugarte The Opposite Of Love is about a young couple who have different ideas about how their relationship should work. The film is produced by Zeta Cinema and Antena 3 Films, which has had recent success with local comedy dramas such as Three Meters Above The Sky, To Hell With The Ugly and Brain Drain.

Sony has already picked up Spanish distribution rights to The Opposite Of Love and will release the film on August 26.
 
DeaPlaneta will also present Blind Alley to buyers at Cannes. The directorial debut of The Devil’s Backbone writer Antonio Trashorras, the film is about a woman attacked by a serial killer in a launderette and is produced by Antena 3 Films, Dynamo Producciones and Roxbury Pictures.
