Former All Saints member Shaznay Lewis is turning to feature films after the highly-publicised break-up of the all-girl pop act.

The only All Saint not to appear in Dave Stewart's critically-panned Honest is making her feature debut in soccer comedy Bend It Like Beckham.

Lewis will play the captain of a soccer team in the film, which starts a seven-week shoot at the UK's Shepperton Studios on Monday. Other new casting sees Jonathan Rhys Meyers playing a team coach.

Gurinder Chadha (Bhaji On The Beach, What's Cooking') is directing the Kintop production, which stars Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley as two 18-year-old girls who have their hearts set on careers in professional soccer, despite their parents' wishes.Other cast members include Juliette Stevenson, Frank Harper, Archie Panjabi and Anupam Kher.

Helkon SK, formerly Redbus, has UK rights, while The Sales Co is handling overseas sales. Backers include UK support body the Film Council, BSkyB, British Screen Finance, Future Films, Hamburg Film Fund, Roc Media and Bilb/Road Movies. Shooting will also take place in Hamburg.

The screenplay has been written by Chadha, Guljit Bindra and Paul Mayeda Berges. Chadha produces with Deepak Nayar. Executive producers are Ulrich Felsberg, Haneet Vaswani, Russel Fischer, Simon Franks and Zygi Kamasa.
