MK2 has announced a $10.4m (Euros 7m) film from director Gilles Behat starring Gerard Depardieu and Olivier Marchal. Diamond 13 will begin shooting in February in Belgium and is expected to be released by MK2 in the autumn of 2008.

Also starring Valeria Golino and Aissa Maiga, the thriller is adapted from Hugues Pagan's novel L'Etage Des Morts . The story centres around Mat, a night cop in the criminal division of Paris' police force.

His lifelong friend Franck works on the drug squad and has been dabbling in trafficking for some time. When Franck takes things a bit too far, Mat must take matters into his own hands.

Diamond is produced by MK2 in co-production with Belgium's Artemis and Samsa Film of Luxembourg.
