Gaga Corporation has acquired Japanese rights to Teddy Chen’s Bodyguards And Assassins, which will open China Film Week at the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) this week.

The film has grossed more than $50m at the Asian box office so far and was also recently released in Russia and the UK. It has collected a total of 36 awards and racked up nine nominations at the Taiwan Golden Horse Film Awards which take place next month.

Gaga plans to give the film a theatrical release in Japan in the second quarter of 2011.

Chen will attend the Japanese premiere screening at TIFF, which will be held on the night of October 24 at the Toho Cinemas.
