Head-On star Sibel Kekilli is to play the female lead of ayoung Jewish woman in veteran producer Artur "Atze" Brauner'sHolocaust drama The Last Train (Der Letzte Zug) about Jews being sent tothe concentration camp in Auschwitz in early 1943.

The film will be directed by actor Armin Mueller-Stahl. Speakingto ScreenDaily.com, 86-year-old Brauner said that he had conceived"the story of this transport of six days and nights, people packedtogether in a container without any space to move. The most infernal tragedyone could ever imagine."

Shooting for what Brauner describes as "my last orperhaps next-to-last film" will run for ten weeks from the end of April2005 at locations in Lithuania, Duesseldorf and Berlin.

Over a 60-year career in the film industry, Brauner hasregularly returned to the dark chapter of German history under the Nazis forinspiration for his film projects, producing such films as The Plot ToAssassinate Hitler (Der 20. Juli, 1955), Michael Verhoeven's The White Rose(1982), Fons Rademakers' The Rose Garden (1989/1990) andAgnieszka Holland's Europa Europa (1989/1990).

Kekilli shot to national and international fame earlier thisyear with her hard-hitting performance in Fatih Akin's Golden Bear-winning Head-Onand went on to pick up the German Film Award and a Bambi for her role. She wasalso nominated for Best European Actress of Year at this year's European FilmAwards.
