Sold by German-based agent The Match Factory, Grbavica looks at the aftermath of the mass rape of women during the siege of Sarajevo in the Bosnian war.
Meanwhile, Andrea Occhipinti's Lucky Red has acquired all Italian distribution rights from Wild Bunch to director Luc Jacquet's upcoming film, The Fox and The Child. The $13m film by The March of the Penguins'director will combine documentary nature footage with a fictional story about a young girl and her friendship with a fox. It starts shooting next month for one year in France, Italy and Romania.
In separate Berlin deals, two Italian films have found distribution in the UK: Wild Bunch has sold The Caiman, the new film from cult Italian director Nanni Moretti, to Optimum.
The picture, which stars Silvio Orlando and is inspired by the figure of Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi, will open in Italy on March 24 on 300 screens through Sacher Distribuzione.
Widely expected to receive its world premiere in Cannes, it will be released in France through Bac Films.
In addition, TF1 International has sold Michele Placido's competition title, Crime Novel, to the UK's Icon. The film is also slated for release in France through Warner Bros on March 22.
