Italian director Maurizio Sciarra's Alla Rivoluzione Sulla Due Cavalli (pictured) - a road movie about three friends who travel to witness Portugal's 1970s revolution - won both the Golden Leopard and Best Actor Bronze Leopard at this year's Locarno International Film Festival.

Headed by US writer and film critic Janet Maslin, the festival's international competition jury gave its Special Jury Prize to Abolfazl Jalali's Delbaran "for a film that best conveys the spirit of communication between people and culture". Delbaran also received the FICC/IFFS's Don Quixote Prize.

Meanwhile, the Silver Leopards for Young and New Cinema were presented to Alain Gomis' L'Afrance (France) and Peter Sehr's Love The Hard Way (US/Germany) respectively, and actress Kim Ho-Jung received the Best Actress Bronze Leopard for her performance in Korean director Moon Seung Wook's Nabi.

While the festival organisers stated that not all of the official jury's prizes had been an unanimous decision, the FIPRESCI jury unanimously awarded its prize to Meng Ong's Miss Wonton "which charmingly mirrors the meeting of cultures in the New World" and honoured veteran US director Peter Bogdanovich on the screening of The Cat's Meow "for his love of cinema, and mastery of the medium".

Ashutosh Gowariker's Bollywood extravaganza Lagaan, Once Upon A Time In India won the UBS Audience Award after enthralling the Piazza Grande audience for almost four hours on August 5.
