The Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences has selected Carlos Reygadas' Silent Light (Stellet Licht) as the Mexican entry for foreign-language Oscar consideration.

The film, which Reygadas also wrote and produced, is a Mennonite love story with dialogue in an unusual old German dialect.

Johan, a married man, transgresses the teachings of his religion by falling in love with another woman.

The film won the jury prize of the Cannes Film Festival this year along with Persepolis.

The Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences has also announced that El Cobrador, In God We Trust, directed by Paul Leduc and produced by Salamandra Producciones will represent Mexico at the Spanish Film Academy Awards (Goyas).

This crime drama tells the story of an unnamed sociopathic millionaire who lives in Miami and gets a charge out of running down female pedestrians in his oversized SUV. Meanwhile, El Cobrador, a Brazilian mineworker, travels to the Big Apple and kills everyone he can find.
