Miramax is partnering up with the Doha Film Institute to launch an internship programme which enables Qatari students to gain experience in its London or LA offices.

Each summer, one university student from Qatar will be chosen to do an eight week internship in either the Miramax London or LA office, working alongside Miramax executives, with airfare and accomodation being provided.

Participants will divide their time across business areas including creative development, sales and distribution, digital, and new business development.

The programme is being backed by the Doha Film Institute which has launched a number of initiatives aimed at nurturing local talent through exposure to the international film industry, including its Doha Talks and Doha Projects schemes.

Speaking from the Doha Tribeca Film Festival where he also launched a Middle East Facebook App, Miramax CEO Mike Lang said he was “tremendously excited” about the programme as well as the “opportunities to promote our library throughout the region, which we believe will be a great source of creative and business talent in the future.”

“This is one of many industry-relevant educational initiatives that DFI offers Qataris who want to be part of building a robust film industry in Qatar, and this one in particular will be focused on understanding the ins and outs of the film business, from a company like Miramax, which continues to evolve and maintain its global positioning,” added DFI executive director Amanda Palmer.
