‘The Moment’

The Moment starring Charli xcx as a fictionalised version of herself preparing for a first headline tour has opened on an estimated $427,940 through A24 in the third-highest limited debut by any film since the pandemic.

Aidan Zamiri’s drama premiered in Sundance and opened on four screens for a $106,985 per-screen average. As limited debuts go this ranks behind only A24 stablemate Marty Supreme in 2025 and Focus Features’ Asteroid City in 2023 since 2020.

A24 reported more than 60 sold-out shows for the feature starring xcx, Alexander Skarsgard, Kylie Jenner, Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou and Rachel Sennott.

Elsewhere in the specialty and awards season box office, Focus Features’ Hamnet added $1.5m from 1,259 in its 11th weekend to stand at $20.2m.

1-2 Special opened Simón Mesa’s Colombian Cannes Un Certain Regard jury prize winner A Poet in IFC Center in New York and Laemmle Royal in Los Angeles to a solid $27,754. The story of an ageing poet who mentors a talented youngster expands on Friday (February 6) into Canada, as well as Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia and other markets. It will continue to expand nationwide through February.

Gus van Sant’s Dead Man’s Wire grossed an additional $10,672 in its fourth weekend through Row K to boost the running total to $2.2m.

Watermelon Pictures expanded Cherien Dabis’ Jordanian Oscar submission All That’s Left Of You into Canada including TIFF Lightbox and Cinema Du Musée in Montreal, and reported $63,192 from 42 locations in the fourth weekend. The running total stands at $363,203.

Neon said its Oscar-nominated animation contender Arco earned $411,872 from 302 screens in the second weekend and stands at $517,086.
