The 70th BFI London Film Festival (LFF, October 7-18) has unveiled its full lineup, with nine feature world premieres, including Anthony Wonke’s boxing biopic In The Shadows, West End adaptation Frank And Percy, plus new animations from Travis Knight and Brad Bird.

In The Shadows stars Jasmine Jobson as Ramla Ali, the UK’s first female Muslim boxing champion, with Finn Cole playing her husband. True Brit is set to release in the UK on October 30.
Sean Mathias’ Frank And Percy sees Ian McKellen and Roger Allam reprise their stage roles as two older men who meet while walking their dogs on Hampstead Heath and develop an unexpected friendship. Icon will release in the UK, with Kaleidoscope handling international sales.
Travis Knight directs Wildwood, the latest stop-motion fantasy from Laika, about friends drawn into a magical forest to find a kidnapped infant. Voice cast includes Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan and Mahershala Ali.
Pixar veteran Brad Bird, whose films include The Incredibles and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, premieres animated science fiction mystery Ray Gunn starring Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson, which will stream on Netflix from December.
Further world premieres include Federico Borgia’s Prince, Mohsen Amiryousefi’s The Banning Curse, and Ken Fero and Tariq Mehmood’s documentary about the Bradford 12, Rebellion
The LFF lineup contains 169 feature films, slightly up on last year’s 166. The number of feature world premieres is also slightly up from last year, from seven to nine.
In total, there are 251 titles, comprising features, shorts, series and immersive works, from 88 countries, with 43% by female filmmakers, a slight increase from 2025.
Galas and first feature titles
The 23 Gala screenings will take place at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, with six Special Presentations at various venues.
Newly announced galas include Danny Boyle’s Venice opener Ink, starring Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch alongside Jack O’Connel and Claire Foy; Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth! about a film composer starring Pedro Pascal, Olivia Wilde and Will Arnett; Susanna White’s screen adaptation of Suzie Miller’s play Prima Facie starring Cynthia Erivo; Mike Leigh’s Tender Loving Care, expected to premiere at Telluride; Martin McDonagh’s black comedy Wild Horse Nine with John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell; and Florian Zeller’s Bunker starring Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem.
The Galas also include a raft of Cannes titles, including Cristian Mungui’s Palme d’Or winner Fjord, Jordan Firstman’s buzzy Club Kid, Paweł Pawlikowski’s Fatherland and Andrey Zvyagintsev’s Minotaur.
The first feature competition includes three UK productions or co-productions; Ashley Walters’ Animol, which premiered in Berlin, Bertil Nilsson’s TIFF Platform title Masc, which was a 2026 Great 8 project; Lagos-set Sundance award-winner Lady, the feature debut of Olive Nwosu; and UK-India-Greece project Our Share Of Sand from Shalini Adnani, set to premiere at Venice Critics’ Week.
The previously announced 10 -strong competition lineup includes the world premiere of Carol Morley’s 7 Miles Out.
The Screen Talks series includes Andrew Scott, Cynthia Erivo, Danny Boyle and Sofia Coppola.
The festival will once again host an LFF Expanded industry day on October 15, with the rest of the industry lineup to be announced in the coming weeks.
A selection of the LFF lineup will be screened at 10 venues outside London, with Boyle’s Screen Talk taking place at Home Manchester.
Kristy Matheson, artistic director, BFI Festivals, said: “What a vision they have for us in 2026; tumults of the era live inside our programme, but so too do cinematic thrills, moral conundrums and a recurring exploration of care and community.”
BFI chief executive Ben Roberts added: “This year, the blockbusters, the indie breakouts and the debuts have drawn audiences to cinemas in record numbers. A reminder that discovering a new film in a room of fellow fans is a thrill like nothing else.”
