South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho is to preside over the jury at the 22nd Marrakech International Film Festival.

The upcoming edition of the festival is set to run from November 28 to December 6. The jury awards the Étoile d’Or to one of the 14 titles in the international competition, which comprises first and second-time feature filmmakers.

“I look forward to sharing a powerful cinematic experience with the festival audience and reflecting on the true value of cinema,” said Bong.

The filmmaker won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and four Oscars with 2019 psychological drama Parasite, which become the first non-English language film to win best picture at the Academy Awards.

His latest, Mickey 17, screened at the Berlinale in February ahead of a worldwide release through Warner Bros. The sci-fi feature, starring Robert Pattinson, earned $133m at the box office and ranks as the fifth highest-grossing film of the year in South Korea.

It marked Bong’s eighth feature, which also includes Barking Dogs Never Bite, Memories Of Murder, The Host, Mother, Snowpiercer, Okja and Parasite.

Earlier this year, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures launched an exhibition based around Bong’s work, marking the first-ever exhibition dedicated to the filmmaker.
