EXCLUSIVE: Hong Kong’s Cappu Films has secured international rights to Ah Boys To Firemen, the latest feature from Singapore filmmaker Jack Neo.
The upcoming film marks the next instalment of the hit Ah Boys To Men franchise and is produced by J Team Productions, Little Green White and mm2 Entertainment. Leonard Lai, producer of all the Ah Boys features, also returns.
Cappu Films is introducing the title to buyers at Hong Kong Filmart ahead of a planned start to production in mid-2026 in Singapore. A Chinese New Year 2027 theatrical release is being targeted. Cappu handles sales worldwide excluding Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Set against the backdrop of the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the story will follow a reluctant young recruit who stumbles through training before discovering his courage during a catastrophic skyscraper blaze.
Budgeted around $2m (SGD $2.5-3m), Neo plans to brings together large-scale disaster set-pieces with a youth-centric story of brotherhood. The feature will incorporate virtual production techniques to film the fire and rescue scenes.
The feature builds on the success of Neo’s Ah Boys To Men series, one of Singapore’s most successful local film franchises. Several instalments rank among the country’s top-grossing titles, including Ah Boys To Men 3: Frogmen, which recorded the biggest opening weekend for an Asian film in the territory. The films have collectively generated more than$19.5m (SGD $25m) at the local box office.
Neo has directed more than 40 films including I Not Stupid and Long Long Time Ago, with his works grossing nearly $80m (SGD $100m).
“This is a story I’ve always wanted to tell,” said Neo. “Life taught me what I thought I knew about sacrifice. But the moment I stepped into a fire station and looked into the eyes of these young men and women, I realised — there is a courage I had never truly come close to before… Every detail I uncovered moved me deeper. These stories deserve to be seen.”
Cappu’s Filmart slate also includes Jackie Chan’s upcoming Pawfect Agents and Retired Cop; crime thriller Fox Hunt, starring Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Olga Kurylenko; action titles Assassin and Fury 12 Hours; Busan award-winner Malika and fellow prize-winner Waterdrop; and Karlovy Vary drama Promise, I’ll Be Fine.
