EXCLUSIVE: LA-based Concourse Media has closed key territories in Berlin on upcoming heist thriller The Smack starring Oscar winners Casey Affleck, Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, and Marisa Tomei.
Wild Bunch has acquired the film for Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. Deals have also closed in Spain (Youplanet), Scandinavia (Mis.Label), Middle East (Falcon), South Korea (Noori Pictures), CIS and Baltics (Paradise), Poland (Galapagos), Israel (Shoval), and Greece (Tanweer).
Concourse CEO Matt Shreder is in ongoing discussions for remaining territories on The Smack, which is scheduled to begin production later this year and is produced by Keith Kjarval through his Unified Pictures alongside Rockwell and Mark Berger of Play Hooky, and Andrea Bucko of Sugar Rush Pictures.
Affleck plays a conman who teams up with a casino waitress to steal a stash of stolen military cash and must contend with other criminals who are also after the cache. David M. Rosenthal directs and adapted the screenplay with Kjarval from Richard Lange’s 2017 novel of the same name.
Concourse Media represents worldwide rights and its affiliate Archetype Media Finance is financing the project. “Closing with this calibre of distribution partners is meaningful for everyone involved,” Shreder said. “We’re grateful for their partnership and excited to see this project come together.
