Rob Reiner

Hollywood filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner have been found dead in their Los Angeles home, according to reports in the US media.

The LAPD was called to the couple’s house in Brentwood on Sunday afternoon and is investigating the incident as an “apparent homicide”.

A source told NBC that the couple died of stab wounds.

LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said at a news conference: “We are not looking for anyone as a suspect or in any other manner at this time,” adding that no one had yet been detained “as a suspect.”

“We’re going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation,” he said.

Reiner has directed many classic films, including This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men and Stand By Me, and also acted in titles such as The Wolf Of Wall Street. He also co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment production company

The family said in a statement: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner.

“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Tributes

Former US president Barack Obama was among those to pay tribute to Reiner: “Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen,” he said. “But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people - and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action.

“Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.”
