The Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced the 2019-20 timetable on Wednesday (17), following an earlier announcement that the 72nd Annual DGA Awards will take place on January 25, 2020.
Theatrical feature film and first-time feature film nominees will be announced on January 7, 2020 and television, commercial, and documentary nominees on January 6, 2020.
DGA members will be able to vote online from December 2, 2019–January 6, 2020 for theatrical feature film nominations; from December 6, 2019–January 3, 2020 for television nominations in five categories; and from January 7, 2020–January 24, 2020 for the Theatrical Feature Film Award. All voting will continue to take place online.
Alfonos Cuaron won the DGA feature film prize for ROMA, Tim Wardle took top documentary honours for Three Identical Strangers, and Bo Burnham won First-Time Feature Film for Eighth Grade. Adam McKay won the dramatic series category for Succession “Celebration”.
This will be a condensed awards season after the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences set its 92nd awards ceremony for February 9, 2020. The PGA Awards are scheduled for January 18, 2020, and the SAG awards have been dated on January 26, 2020.
