The live-action Moana opened on £2.8m from 628 locations, making for a site average of £4,480. It is just ahead of the original 2016 animation, which debuted with £2.2m, but far below that of its 2024 sequel Moana 2 which pulled in £12m on opening weekend.

Directed by Thomas Kail, the 2026 remake follows the original story of Moana, the daughter of an island village chief, who, with the help of a shapeshifting demigod, is chosen to restore a magical stone to the volcanic island of Te Fiti.

Following closely behind in second place was Disney stablemate Toy Story 5 which added £2.5m in its fourth session with a 57% drop. Its total now stands at £42.4m.
