Netflix has cast Alisha Weir in the lead role in Matilda from Working Title and Sony’s TriStar, with Emma Thompson on board as the fearsome Miss Trunchbull and Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey.
Netflix will distribute worldwide except in the UK where TriStar Pictures will distribute theatrically. Working Title and The Roald Dahl Story Company produce.
Matthew Warchus is directing and Dennis Kelly adapted the film from the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical based on Dahl’s children’s story, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.
Matilda tells the story of a genius girl who befriends a teacher and rebels against her terrible parents and school headmistress.
