‘F1’

Apple Original Films has scheduled a December 12 global streaming date for F1: The Movie after the film’s record-breaking box office run.

Joseph Kosinski’s action drama starring Brad Pitt will debut on Apple TV, which has tweaked its name and removed the “+” symbol. The feature has been available for digital ownership on the platform and others for some weeks.

F1 has earned more than $629m in worldwide ticket sales since opening over the summer. It ranks as Apple’s biggest theatrical hit, the highest-grossing original Hollywood feature of the year-to-date, and Pitt’s biggest global box office hit in a lead role. The feature has earned more than $189m and $439m in North America and international markets, respectively.

Pitt plays a brilliant former racer whose Formula 1 career was derailed by an accident and returns to the sport to drive in his old friend’s struggling team alongside a brash rookie. The cast includes Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, and Damson Idris.

Ehren Kruger wrote the screenplay based on a story by Kosinski and Kruger. Production took place during actual Grand Prix weekends.

Jerry Bruckheimer produced with Kosinski, former seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Chad Oman. The executive producer is Daniel Lupi.
