EXCLUSIVE: Vertigo Releasing has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights to Ben Leonberg’s debut feature Good Boy.
The distributor will release the film in UK-Ireland cinemas on October 10.
Good Boy follows a loyal canine companion named Indy who leaves city life with his owner to a long-vacant country home. After moving in, Indy becomes wary of the old house, including phantasmagorical warnings from a long-dead dog.
The film debuted at SXSW this year, with Indy – also the name of the dog performer – winning the ‘Howl of Fame’ award for best canine performance.
It is produced by Kari Fischer and Leonberg; Independent Film Company will release the film in North America on October 3.
“UK & Irish theatrical audiences will undoubtedly find this perspective-driven horror as unique and refreshing as we did,” said Vertigo CEO Rupert Preston. “Indy the dog gives a standout performance.”
It joins a Vertigo slate that includes Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn’s Saipan, about the falling out between Ireland captain Roy Keane and manager Mick McCarthy at the 2002 football World Cup.
