Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania and UK composer Daniel Blumberg have joined the Venice film festival’s international competition jury, presided over by Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Ben Hania most recently directed The Voice Of Hind Rajab, which won the grand jury prize at last year’s Venice festival and went on to be nominated for an Oscar for best international feature.

Blumberg won an Oscar in 2025 for his score for The Brutalist, while his other credits include The Testament Of Ann Lee and Pompeii: Below The Clouds.

Further jurors include Italian professor Francesco Casetti, French filmmaker Xavier Giannoli, Afghan director and screenwriter Shahrbanoo Sadat and Hong Kong director and producer Johnnie To.

The 83rd Venice film festival will take place from September 2-12.

Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother won the Golden Lion at last year’s festival, awarded by a jury headed by Alexander Payne.
