Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning held on to the top spots at the UK and Ireland box office over the weekend as newcomers Karate Kid: Legends and The Salt Path cracked the top five.
Disney’s Lilo & Stitch stayed in first place as the live-action title dropped just 23% in its second weekend with an impressive £6.1m. The film is already the third-highest-grossing film of 2025 in the territory, behind only Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy (£46.4m) and A Minecraft Movie (£56.5m).
Sticking second was Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning which dropped 44% on its second session with £3.5m. With a £17.4m total, it will soon overtake Captain America: Brave New World (£17.7m) to be the fourth-highest-grossing title of the year so far.
Karate Kid: Legends opened in third place on £1.7m for Sony, behind the £4.9m opening of its 2010 predecessor The Karate Kid. Jack Chan and Ralph Macchio reprise their roles in the franchise’s sixth edition.
UK drama The Salt Path scored a strong £1.4m debut in the biggest three-day opening for distributor Black Bear. Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs star in Marianne Elliott’s debut feature about a couple who embark on a year-long coastal trek after losing their home.
Final Destination: Bloodlines is now the third-highest-grossing entry of the franchise after topping £9.4m on its third week of play, putting it ahead of Final Destination 3 (£9m). The Warner Bros horror made £977,099 over the weekend.
On its second weekend, Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme is just shy of £2m after adding £437,271 for Universal Pictures. It has passed the lifetime total of the director’s The Life Aquatic (£1.6m) and should catch up with the £2.06m of Moonrise Kingdom.
Dropping out of the top five for the first time was Disney’s Thunderbolts* which added £258,570 for a £15.9m cume on its fifth session.
Ryan Coogler’s Sinners brought in £198,648 on its seventh weekend for Warner Bros, bringing it to a total of £15.6m.
Also for Warner Bros, A Minecraft Movie is up to £56.5m after scoring another £142,360 in its ninth session.
Opening weekends
James Griffiths’ UK drama The Ballad Of Wallis Island opened on £127,719 for Universal Pictures following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Carey Mulligan, Tom Basden and Tim Key star in the film, produced by Baby Cow, that has a total of £142,542 including previews.
David Midell’s horror The Ritual, starring Al Pacino, Dan Stevens and Ashley Greene, opened on £46,236 for Altitude. The film, which follows two priests attempting dangerous exorcisms, has a total of £70,303 including previews.
Documentary Ocean With David Attenborough added another £31,316 for Altitude and is now up to £1.4m.
Studiocanal released a 4K restoration of Darling for its 60th anniversary, which made £5,925.
Katell Quillevere’s French drama Along Came Love grossed £3,971 on its opening weekend for Curzon. Katell Quillévéré’s Cannes 2023 premiere has a total of £8,380 including previews.
In event cinema, Peppa Meets The Baby Cinema Experience was out in front with £1.1m for Trafalgar Releasing. CinemaLive’s Doctor Who - The Two Episode Finale made £381,725 from live screenings on Saturday (May 31).Meanwhile, live concert j-hope Tour ‘Hope On The Stage’ In Japan scored £108,972 while opera Il Barbiere Di Siviglia opened on £92,708, also for Trafalgar Releasing.
