In A Whisper

EXCLUSIVE: Leyla Bouzid’s family drama In A Whisper (A Voix Basse) is making a noise with buyers following the film’s world premiere in Berlin’s competition.

Playtime has already sold the film to Germany and Austria (Neue Visionen), Italy (Fandango), Spain (Lazona), Switzerland (Cineworx), Portugal (Leopardo Filmes), Canada (Axia Films) and the former Yugoslavia (MCF).

The film starring Eya Bouteraa, Hiam Abbass and Marion Barbeau centres on a woman living in Paris who returns to Tunisia for her uncle’s funeral and sets out to uncover the truth behind his sudden death as family secrets are revealed.

Part intimate drama and part investigative mystery film, the film explores hidden homosexuality and familial and cultural expectations.

It is produced by France’s Unité and co-produced by Tunisia’s Cinetelefilms. Memento Distribution will release it in France. The film is the third feature from Bouzid following As I Open My Eyes and A Tale Of Love And Desire, which closed Cannes’ Critics’ Week in 2021.
