Maxine Peake and Andrea Arnold

Maxine Peake and Andrea Arnold are among the UK speakers taking part in Sheffield DocFest, running from June 10-15.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Arnold, whose credits include Cow, American Honey and Bird, joins producer and collaborator Kat Mansoor for an on-stage conversation exploring the blurred boundaries between fiction and documentary.

I Swear actor Peake is this year’s festival guest of honour. She will take part in a conversation with filmmaker Paul Sng discussing how working-class voices are represented in the media and on screen in the age of populism. Peake will also take on a curatorial role, personally selecting films to form part of the line-up and showcasing and introducing some of her favourite documentaries.

Also on the speaker line-up is actor Miriam Margolyes and a special event dedicated to David Attenborough, titled ’Sir David Attenborough at 100: A Living Legacy’.

For the first time Sheffield DocFest will also present a new dedicated family strand, GEN DocFest, designed for all ages and featuring key names in children’s entertainment including cast and crew of CBBC series Horrible Histories and Horrible Science.

The full programme will be unveiled later this month, with the theme of this year’s festival ‘realities in motion’.
