Disney executives announced that the Pixar family film Monsters University was on course to cross $700m at the worldwide box office.
Monsters University becomes the fourth Pixar release to cross the threshold after Toy Story 3 on $1.063bn, Finding Nemo on $922m and Up on $731m.
The film was also scheduled to overtake Toy Story 3 on Thursday to rank as Pixar’s biggest release in China.
The international running total stands at more than $403m internationally and the film arrives in South Korea on Sept 12.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros Pictures International’s Pacific Rim heads into the weekend having crossed $300m.
