EXCLUSIVE: Buyers have snapped up action thriller Best Pancakes In The County starring Nicolas Cage, Justin Long and Shelley Hennig, with Nadine de Barros’ Fortitude International reporting a raft of post-Cannes sales.
Deals have closed with SND in France, Leonine in Germany, Leone in Italy, Falcon in the Middle East, Kinoswiat in Poland, and Daro in CIS, with RLJ Entertainment acquiring US rights.
Ken Sanzel, whose credits include Scar City, Kill Chain, Lone Hero, and Blunt Force Trauma, wrote and directs the story about a deadly stand-off that unfolds at a smalltown diner between rogue federal agents, a con man with a shady past, and a waitress with secrets of her own.
Sanzel is in post after production wrapped earlier this year in central Arkansas. Raja Collins (Mafia Wars, Don’t Suck, The Wrath Of Becky, American Sicario), Eduard Osipov (Don’t Suck, Blowback), R Wesley Sierk III (Famous, Baton, Basic, Trap House), and Eric Brenner (Stuck In Love, Crazy Heart, Erased) serve as producers.
The executive producer roster includes Audra Gricius (Basic, Hunting Season, Trap House), Jina Panebianco (Hurricanna, The Florist), and de Barros. Fortitude’s sister company CaliWood Pictures co-financed the feature.
Cage is in post on Madden for David O Russell and Lords Of War for Andrew Niccol and his recent credits include Longlegs, The Surfer, and TV series Spider-Noir.
Long’s screen credits include Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, Tusk, and Jeepers Creepers. Hennig has starred in Unfriended and Hunting Season.
