Hong Kong’s Moebius Entertainment has secured sales rights to Peter Ho-Sun Chan’s upcoming drama The Road Not Taken, ahead of its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival.
It was announced today (August 11) that the feature will play in TIFF’s Special Presentations programme.
The story follows a former TV host, played by Zhou Xun, who begins to lose her memory. With the past beginning to seep into the present, it forces her to confront the fractures within her family and the choices that shaped her life. The cast also includes Wang Xiao, Tian Zhuangzhuang, Diana Lin and Wen Qi.
Chan co-wrote the screenplay with Wu Huiling and also produced the film with Yee Chung-man.
It will mark the return of Hong Kong filmmaker Chan to Toronto after She’s Got No Name, which screened at the festival last year following its premiere at Cannes 2024.
Fred Tsui, founder and CEO of Moebius Entertainment, was executive producer of She’s Got No Name and collaborated with Chan on its production and international launch.
Moebius picked up The Road Not Taken before Tsui was appointed executive director of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS). Tsui will not take on new sales projects after taking the role but as the upcoming film is a pre-existing Moebius commitment, the company will handle its international sales campaign and work with the filmmakers on the film’s global rollout. Tsui is set to take up the HKIFFS executive director post on September 23.
Moebius’s slate also includes Feng-i Fiona Roan’s Happily Ever After, which is also set to premiere in TIFF’s Special Presentations section, and Venice Horizons title Big Little Things by Michelle Zhou.
