Piece of Magic Entertainment (POM) has partnered with US outfit GKids to release Japanese animated feature All You Need Is Kill across multiple European territories.

Under the agreement, POM will release the sci-fi action drama in cinemas across Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Kosovo. Release dates have yet to be announced.

The multi-territory rights deal marks the first collaboration between Amsterdam-based distributor POM and the Oscar-winning US animation distributor and producer GKids.

All You Need Is Kill is based on the eponymous 2004 novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, which previously inspired Doug Liman’s 2014 live-action adaptation Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.

The story follows a young woman caught in a time loop, reliving the same fatal day an alien species suddenly awakens, where each reset brings new psychological and physical stakes.

The animation marks the feature directorial debut of Ken’ichirō Akimoto and is scripted by Yuichiro Kido. It received its world premiere at Annecy last June and opened in more than 700 US theatres in January through GKids, which also has distribution rights for the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

It is produced by Warner Bros. Japan and acclaimed animation house Studio 4°C, whose recent credits include Annecy award-winner ChaO and Berlinale selection Chimney Town: Frozen in Time.

Caspar Nadaud, CEO and founder of Piece of Magic Entertainment, said: “We are pleased to be collaborating with GKids, whose established commitment to bringing ambitious anime films to cinemas closely mirrors our own.

All You Need Is Kill is a striking piece of filmmaking: visually bold, electric, and driven by a perspective that feels very contemporary. It’s exactly the kind of storytelling we believe deserves to be seen on the big screen.”

GKids was acquired by Japanese entertainment giant Toho in 2025. Its upcoming theatrical releases include Godzilla Minus Zero and Aardman’s Shaun The Sheep: The Beast Of Mossy Bottom.
