SAG-AFTRA and the studios representative Alliance Of Motion Picture And Television Producers (AMPTP) will resume contract talks on April 27.

The parties issued a brief joint statement announcing the date on Monday (April 6) and said the talks would “remain under a mutually agreed upon media blackout”. The negotiations began in February and paused last month as the Writers Guild of America (WGA) began their negotiations with AMPTP.

The statement comes days after the WGA negotiating committee and the studios said they had reached a tentative four-year deal subject to WGA board approval and member ratification. They declined to go into details of the agreement.

Like WGA, SAG-AFTRA’s negotiating committee is looking to bolster members’ health and insurance plans, secure robust AI guardrails, and address streamer residuals.

The Guild’s current three-year minimum basic agreement expires on June 30 and both sides will be keen to avoid a repetition of the acrimonious talks that broke down in 2023, resulting in a 118-day strike.

The DGA’s contract is also due to expire on June 30 and that Guild, led by UK director Christopher Nolan, is scheduled to commence its talks on May 11.
