Brady Corbet is in post-production on a 70mm concert film of former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne’s world tour that climaxes in New York next month.
The Brutalist director filmed over multiple nights at the Hippodrome in Byrne’s hometown of Baltimore, a small part of the year-long Who Is The Sky? tour that has spanned North America, the UK and Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and Asia.
Byrne’s film agents at Gersh represent global rights with The Deep End Films and Corbet and The Testament Of Ann Lee director Mona Fastvold’s Pre-Code. It is understood distribution and release details will be announced in due course.
Reports of a possible collaboration between Byrne and Corbet appeared on Reddit several months ago when Baltimore concert-goers noticed camera operators at the venue.
Amit Dey and Jason Fine are producing for The Deep End Films, with Corbet and Maddie Browning for Pre-Code, and Byrne. Executive producers are River Road’s Bill Pohlad, Andrew van Wyk, and Michael Overman, Meredith and Martin Sumner for The Deep End, and Sam Fayed and Adam Gibbs for Townhouse Media.
Byrne is no stranger to the concert film, having been the subject of Stop Making Sense, Jonathan Demme’s 1984 Talking Heads documentary regarded as one of the finest concert films ever made, and Spike Lee’s Emmy-winning 2020 film David Byrne’s American Utopia.
After Demme’s death in 2017, Corbet dedicated his 2018 Venice selection Vox Lux to the late filmmaker, citing him as a supporter of his career.
The Who Is The Sky? tour, named after Byrne’s 2025 album, is built around an ensemble of 13 musicians, singers, and dancers constantly moving around the stage and features classics such as Psycho Killer, Life During Wartime, and Burning Down The House. The tour began in September 2025 and concludes on September 19.
