Series festival and industry event Seriesly Berlin has unveiled the first premieres and panels for its second edition, which takes place in the German capital from September 15-18.
Seriesly Berlin’s lineup include Streamz’s Belgian queer drama Oh, Otto!; Colombian Television coming-of-age thriller Eve’s Rib; ZDFneo German series House Of Bellevue, set in Berlin’s ballroom scene; Kazakh series Kazakh Scary Tales for Freedom Media OTT about an investigator being confronted with a supernatural case; and Canadian documentary series Sanajiit (Inuit Makers), immersing viewers in Inuit culture, for Uvagut TV.
Panel highlights include ’Dressed To Impress: Fashion as a Narrative Force’, featuring Laos-born designer Be Inthavong, creative director at Jim Thompson who collaborated with the art department of the latest season of the Thailand-set The White Lotus.
The panel explores how designers and fashion brands use TV series as creative platforms, and takes in product placement and how series makers can benefit from stylish, story-driven collaborations.
Furthermore, ’Storytelling 2030: Who Pays, Who Plays? Power, platform, and the price of creativity in a changing world’ will examine how the greenlight process now hinges not only on great storytelling but also strategic partnerships and navigating an evolving financing landscape.
Speakers will include Benjamina Mirnik-Voges, VP original production at the Walt Disney Company Germany, and Sabine de Mardt, president of Gaumont Germany.
The event will also host panels on reinventing co-productions, collaborative Palestinian and Israeli writing, queer representation on TV, and horror series.
“With this year’s programme, we remain true to our mission of creating spaces for stories and themes that often have no place on other stages. We want to bring forward voices and topics that are usually left unspoken. Seriesly Berlin aims to show the unexpected, to spark conversations, and to push the boundaries of storytelling,” said festival director Dennis Ruh.
