Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Sony Pictures said on Thursday that its Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer has become the most-watched of all time with 718.6m views in its first 24 hours.

The data from WaveMetrix showed that interest in the latest exploits of the webslinger starring Tom Holland drew 373m viewer within its first eight hours, overtaking the previous 24-hour record of 365m set by Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. The trailer dropped on March 18.

In December 2021 the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer generated 355.5m views in its first 24 hours. That film went on to earn $1.9bn at the global box office to rank as the highest-grossing Spider-Man film of all time.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens on July 31 and should it overtake its predecessor’s box office it would rank as the second-highest release since Covid, behind only 2022’s Avatar: The Way Of Water on $2.3bn.

The film takes place four years after events in No Way Home as Peter Parker/Spider-Man fights crime as an adult and lives alone, having erased himself from the lives of his loved ones.

Destin Daniel Cretton directs from a screenplay by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers and the cast includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.
