Starting gun fires on Bafta Film Awards as digital viewing platform opens

The 2027 Bafta Film Awards have swung into gear with the opening of the Bafta View platform to voters.

So far, 34 features have landed on the password-encrypted viewing platform, spanning fiction and non-fiction, English and non-English language, live-action and animation. Last year, 182 feature films were submitted to the awards.

Voters now have the opportunity to review their opt-in chapters such as film not in the English language and animation. Two years ago, all film awards voters became automatically opted in to vote in outstanding British film, and this is no longer an opt-in category.

Voters must now have credited work in documentary film or factual television (or have a current role in producing, financing, commissioning, distribution, programming or exhibition of documentary) to vote in the documentary category.

All members can vote for the winners in British short film and British short animation. To contribute to voting for shorts in the first round, voters must opt in to do so.

Voters must opt in if they wish to receive trade publications during awards season – in print via post, or digitally via email. Screen International plans to publish regular editions, beginning late November, offering analysis, features and talent interviews. These are sent free to voters.
