Stranger In Town

EXCLUSIVE: The UK’s Reason8 has secured sales rights to Melanie Oates’ Stranger In Town, set within a Canadian fundamentalist community, ahead of Cannes.

The project, currently in post, follows a woman attempting to flee the community after an explosion of violence, finding herself suddenly alone and navigating a secular world.

Cast includes Yellowjackets star Sophie Nélisse and The Testaments actor Charlie Carrick. Amber Ripley produces for Goodbye Productions, with support from Telefilm Canada.

Canadian filmmaker Oates’ credits include Toronto 2024 premiere Sweet Baby Angel.

“We’re proud to be representing this powerful and deeply affecting film, which explores resilience, identity, and the courage it takes to redefine one’s place in the world,” said Reason8’s co-managing director Anna Krupnova.
