The final Park City and Salt Lake City edition of Sundance ran from January 21-31, ending four decades of occupancy in Utah. Olivia Wilde’s satirical comedy The Invite starring Wilde, Ed Norton, Seth Rogen, and Penelope Cruz sparked the biggest on-site deal when A24 paid what was believed to be more than $10m for US rights.
One of the most acclaimed films of the festival, Beth de Araujo’s drama Josephine starring Channing Tatum, Gemma Chan, and newcomer Mason Reeves, went on to play in Competition at the Berlinale, where fledgling distributor Sumerian Pictures closed a US deal for seven figures.
