Ana Asensio’s Most Beautiful Island, which won the Grand Jury Award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, has been picked up for UK distribution.

Bulldog Film Distribution has acquired the title as part of a raft of four acquisitions. The deal was negotiated by Alan Partington of Bulldog with Lucas Verga at the Film Sales Company and the film is due for release Q4 2017.

The film is a psychological thriller following an undocumented immigrant in New York City who takes on a mysterious job to get some cash and finds herself involved in a dark and dangerous game. Writer-director Asensio also stars in the lead role and produced by Larry Fessenden at Glass Eye Pix.

Bulldog has also made three further acquisitions, including Michael Almereyda’s Marjorie Prime, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival where it won the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize.

The film, which also played at Sundance London, was adapted from Jordan Harrison’s Pulitzer-nominated play. Set in a near-future world of artificial intelligence, it stars Jon Hamm, Lois Smith, Tim Robbins and Geena Davis and was produced by Uri Singer. The deal was negotiated by Alan Partington of Bulldog with Cameron West at Fortitude International and the film is due for release Q4 2017.

The company has also taken Kurt Voelker’s The Bachelors, which stars Oscar-winner JK Simmons, Oscar-nominees Julie Delpy and Josh Wiggins in the story of a widower and his son who move out of their small town in an attempt to make a fresh start. The project was produced by Matt Baer and George Parra and premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June.

The deal was negotiated by Alan Partington of Bulldog Film Distribution with Samantha Peel at Fortitude International and the film is due for release Q1 2018.

Bulldog has also taken Brakes, starring Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt. Written, directed by and also starring Mercedes Grower, the film premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2016.
