‘The History Of Concrete’

EXCLUSIVE: Conic has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights to John Wilson’s The History Of Concrete ahead of its UK premiere next week at BFI London Film Festival (LFF).

The film was acquired from Ryan Kampe’s US-based sales firm Visit Films. Conic will release it in UK-Ireland cinemas in early 2027.

In documentary The History Of Concrete, Wilson attempts to use the techniques from a workshop on how to write and sell a Hallmark movie, to tell the seemingly drab story of concrete, the world’s most widely used building material.

The film had its world premiere at Sundance in January before an international premiere at CPH:DOX. It has since played festivals including Visions du Reel, Sydney and Karlovy Vary; it plays in the Laugh thematic strand at LFF.

It has reached $1.2m from three weeks in cinemas in the US through Magnolia Pictures.

The film is produced by Wilson, Clark Filio, Shirel Kozak, and Allie Viti. Executive producers are Josh Safdie, Eli Bush, Ronald Bronstein, Conor Hannon and Richie Doyle.

US filmmaker Wilson is creator and director of HBO comedy docuseries How To With John Wilson, on which he worked with Viti, Kozak and Filio.

LFF runs from October 7-18.
